Keeping The Game Safe, Fair And Fun
Why should you become an AYSO Referee? We need you. We can't have games without referees. More importantly, it's rewarding and working with kids is great fun!
Referees are critical to soccer - the game can't be played without them. The referee's job is to be the official in charge of the game. He is the independent arbiter and manager of the game. Her authority extends to everyone at the field, including players, substitutes, team officials, spectators, and even assistant referees.
The referee's No. 1 one concern is to keep the game as safe as possible for the players. While there is risk in all sports, the referee is responsible for minimizing such risks from field conditions, equipment, spectators, and the players.
The referee is responsible for enforcing the Laws of the Game in such a way as to keep the game safe, fair and fun for everyone: the players, the coaches, the spectators and themselves. He interferes with the game as little as possible, avoiding making calls for doubtful and trifling offenses. Referees only make calls for offenses they are sure occurred.
We want our kids to continue to play, and they keep playing as long as it is fun. Referees learn that fun soccer varies from age group to age group of players.
Coaching children is a very rewarding experience. And coaching your own child's team can be one of the most rewarding experiences of all! Coaches are pivotal to having children get the AYSO experience. If Regions don't have enough coaches, registration is scaled back and kids who want to play in AYSO are turned away.
Do you have little or no experience with soccer? No problem! AYSO will teach you, based on the age level you are coaching. Unique age-appropriate coach training is one of AYSO's specialties. If you plan to be at your child's soccer practices and games, you'll also have time to be your child's coach.
To become an AYSO coach, you must be certified in the age level you are coaching. Certification takes three easy steps. First, fill out a volunteer form at www.eayso.org. Then either attend a short Safe Haven™ course in person or online at https://www.aysotraining.org. Lastly, you must attend a brief age-specific coaching course. It's only a few hours. We also have brand new Coaching Manuals that help you with training plans and activities for the age you are coaching.
Coaches are essential to the game. They teach children soccer skills and help develop a healthy, positive attitude, teamwork and good sportsmanship. Coaching is a rewarding experience because you have the opportunity to build a child's self-esteem, help them learn new skills and just have a lot of fun. For more information go to www.ayso.org.

Malibu AYSO EXTRA Tryouts
April 18th and 25th, 2015
Juan Cabrillo Elementary School
Malibu AYSO will hold tryouts for teams to participate in the Area 10E fall 2015 EXTRA season in the following divisions at the following times on Saturday April 18th and Saturday 25th at Juan Cabrillo Elementary School, 30237 Morning View Drive, Malibu, California 90265:
· Boys under 10 years of age—10:00 am to 11:30 am;
· Girls under 12 years of age—11:30 am to 1 pm; and
· Boys under 12 years of age—1 pm to 2:30 pm.
EXTRA is an AYSO-sponsored program that offers organized soccer for players who seek a more competitive level of training and performance. Malibu EXTRA teams will practice twice weekly and will travel to other Area 10E fields in Newbury Park, Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, Simi Valley and Agoura to compete against EXTRA teams from those AYSO Regions.
All players will be independently evaluated by representatives from BritWest Soccer over the course of each tryout. BritWest Soccer is one of the premium soccer training organizations in the greater Los Angeles area and offers Malibu AYSO an objective, educated means of evaluating players for our EXTRA program, free from any potential local bias. Players are encouraged to attend both tryouts, as different skills will be evaluated at each session. Players should plan on arriving at least 30 minutes prior to their scheduled tryout time to get registered and ready to play. Just a reminder, cleats and shinguards are mandatory for all players participating in these tryouts. There will be no charge to players participating in these EXTRA tryouts.
Please note that the formation of EXTRA teams in one or more of these divisions will depend on player registration levels in each age group following Malibu AYSO’s general registration in May 2015. Additionally, the registration fee for EXTRA enrollment will be considerably higher than the standard Malibu AYSO registration fee for our Core program. Also, a greater volunteer commitment during the EXTRA season will be expected of the parents of our EXTRA teams. Our first open registration for our Core program will be held during the Fiesta Malibu at Juan Cabrillo Elementary School on Sunday May 3, 2015. All EXTRA players will need to register in the Core program prior to joining any EXTRA team that is subsequently formed in their division. Finally, online player registration via credit card payment will be available to Malibu AYSO families for the 2015 season.
Please contact Jim Aldrich at 310-466-9665 if you have any questions about the EXTRA tryouts.
All the best,
Malibu AYSO Region 759
